HushAway® Safeguarding Policy
HushAway® Safeguarding Policy
Last updated: October 2026
1. Who We Are
HushAway® and PeacePath® are brands of Peace in Sounds Ltd (Company No. 17364669). This policy sets out how we keep children safe across everything we do, including the Sound Sanctuary, the SoundSonic® family programme, the Community Hub, the PeacePath® Lounge, our partnerships and our research.
It applies to our founder, our Head of Nurture, and every freelancer, contractor, volunteer, supplier and partner who has contact with families, children's content or children's data. It works alongside local safeguarding arrangements and does not replace them.
2. Who to Contact
Designated Safeguarding Lead: Nicola Maria Rose, Founder, hush@hushaway.com
• If a child is in immediate danger, call 999 (or your local emergency number outside the UK).
• NSPCC Helpline: 0808 800 5000
• Childline (for children and young people): 0800 1111
3. Our Principles
• Child-centred and family-aware: we act in the best interests of the child and work with parents and carers.
• Acting early and working together: concerns are acted on promptly, and we cooperate with children's services, the police and local safeguarding partners.
• A safe culture: clear roles, safer recruitment, training, supervision and careful record-keeping.
• Support, not treatment: HushAway® is a sound-therapy-informed regulation tool, not a clinical or therapeutic intervention. Our family support calls cover routines and sound, not therapy.
4. How We Work With Families
• We never have one-to-one contact with a child. All contact is with the parent or carer, by email or video call, and a parent or carer is present whenever a child joins a call.
• We only use HushAway® accounts and approved tools, never personal phones, personal email or personal social media.
• Calls are not recorded unless the parent agrees in writing beforehand, for a stated purpose.
• Signed parental consent is in place before a family starts. Every use of a family's words, images or video is a separate choice, and families can withdraw at any time.
• Taking part, a free month or a partner offer never depends on giving a testimonial, video or review.
• If a family's needs go beyond support with routines and sound, our Head of Nurture will gently signpost them to their GP, health visitor, school SENCO or local services.
• The Community Hub is for adults only. Posts are moderated, and children's surnames, schools and locations are never shown.
5. Safer People
• Roles, access to information and supervision are agreed in writing before anyone starts.
• We check references, qualifications, professional registration and a DBS at the level the role allows.
• Everyone with family contact reads this policy and our data handling instructions, and is taken through how to report a concern, before they work with any family.
6. If a Concern Is Raised
• Anyone working with us who has a concern tells the Designated Safeguarding Lead the same day. If a child is in immediate danger, they call 999 first.
• The Designated Safeguarding Lead reviews the concern within one working day, consults the local safeguarding arrangements for the area where the child lives, and refers to children's social care or the police where that is needed. For families outside the UK, we contact the relevant local child protection authority or emergency services.
• Decisions and the reasons for them are recorded, including when no referral is made.
• Any allegation about someone who works with us is reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead, or directly to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) if it concerns the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
• We share information with those who need to know, lawfully and proportionately, to protect a child. Data protection law never stops us sharing information to keep a child safe.
7. Records
Safeguarding records are factual, dated and kept securely, separate from programme records, and can only be opened by the Designated Safeguarding Lead. They are kept for as long as our insurer and legal advice require.
8. Online Safety and Content
• Children's information is never stored on personal devices.
• We only use footage a family has consented to, and we check everything for surnames, school logos and uniforms, house numbers, car registrations and locations before it is published.
• If a parent asks us to take something down, or we spot a risk, we remove it within 72 hours.
9. Training
Everyone with family contact reads this policy every year. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead completes designated lead safeguarding training at least every two years, and our Head of Nurture keeps their own professional supervision as well as regular check-ins with us.
10. The Guidance We Follow
• Working Together to Safeguard Children 2026 (Department for Education)
• Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026, used as best practice
• UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle personal data.
11. Review
We review this policy at least every year, and after any incident or change in law or guidance. Next review: October 2027.
If you have any questions about this policy, please contact hush@hushaway.com.
