What personal data we collect
General personal data: name, email address, account login details, payment details (processed securely by third-party providers), messages sent via contact forms, and information provided when signing up for newsletters, events or memberships. For school and founding programmes we additionally collect the Sound Lead and educator names and contact details, the setting name, and the short form responses educators provide. Children taking part are recorded by first initial only. We also collect automatically: IP address, device and browser information, and website usage data.
Children’s data
HushAway® content is designed for children, but accounts and contributions must be created by a parent, guardian or educator aged 18 or over. We do not collect personal data directly from children. Where children appear in content shared with HushAway®, this is provided by the parent, guardian or setting with explicit written consent, and we review every piece before use. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
How we use your data and our legal basis
We use personal data to provide our services and memberships, process payments, send service-related communications, send newsletters where consent has been given, improve our website and services, respond to enquiries, and, with explicit consent, to share experiences and case studies that show the impact of HushAway®. Under UK GDPR we rely on: contract (to provide the services you sign up for), consent (newsletters, marketing, and all use of testimonials and case studies), explicit consent (any special category data such as information about a child’s neurodivergence), legitimate interests (improving services), and legal obligations.
Special category data
Information about whether a child is neurodivergent is special category data under UK GDPR Article 9. Where a parent or setting chooses to share it, we process it only on the basis of explicit written consent. Sharing is optional, and consent can be withdrawn at any time, after which we remove it from active channels within 14 days.
Third-party services and international transfers
We use trusted providers for website hosting and analytics, payment processing, email delivery, and membership and content platforms including Kajabi. Some providers, including Kajabi, are based outside the UK. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses, adequacy decisions, or explicit consent. Our sign-up and contact forms use Google reCAPTCHA to protect against spam and automated abuse. reCAPTCHA collects device and browser information and sends it to Google for analysis, and its use is subject to the Google Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy) and Terms of Service (policies.google.com/terms).
Data security and retention
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, with secure storage, restricted internal access and reputable platforms. We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes in this policy or to meet legal obligations. You may request removal of specific content or withdraw consent at any time, and we will remove it from active channels within 14 days.
Your rights and complaints
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your data, correct it, request deletion, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, and request portability. To exercise these rights contact hush@hushaway.com. If you are not satisfied with how your data is handled you may contact the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at https://ico.org.uk.
This policy may be updated periodically; the most recent version will always appear on our website.
