Policy
Last updated: October 2026
HushAway® and PeacePath® are brands of Peace in Sounds Ltd (Company No. 17364669). This policy sets out how we keep children safe across everything we do, including the Sound Sanctuary, Sanctuary in Schools, the SoundSonic® family programme, the Community Hub, our partnerships and our research. It applies to our founder, anyone who supports families or settings on our behalf, and every freelancer, contractor, volunteer, supplier and partner who has contact with families, children’s content or children’s data. It works alongside local safeguarding arrangements and does not replace them.
Who to contact
Designated Safeguarding Lead: Nicola Maria Rose, Founder, hush@hushaway.com. If a child is in immediate danger, call 999 (or your local emergency number outside the UK). NSPCC Helpline: 0808 800 5000. Childline (for children and young people): 0800 1111.
Our principles
Child-centred and family-aware: we act in the best interests of the child and work with parents, carers and settings. Acting early and working together: concerns are acted on promptly, and we cooperate with children’s services, the police and local safeguarding partners. A safe culture: clear roles, safer recruitment, training, supervision and careful record-keeping. Support, not treatment: HushAway® is a sound-therapy-informed regulation tool, not a clinical or therapeutic intervention.
How we work with children and settings
We never have one-to-one contact with a child. Contact is with the parent, carer or a member of staff, and an adult is present whenever a child joins a call. We only use HushAway® accounts and approved tools, never personal phones, personal email or personal social media. Calls are not recorded unless agreed in writing beforehand, for a stated purpose. Signed consent is in place before a family or setting starts, and every use of words, images or video is a separate choice that can be withdrawn at any time. Taking part never depends on giving a testimonial, video or review. Where needs go beyond support with routines and sound, we gently signpost to a GP, health visitor, school SENCO or local services.
Safer people
Roles, access to information and supervision are agreed in writing before anyone starts. We check references, qualifications, professional registration and a DBS at the level the role allows. Everyone with family or setting contact reads this policy and our data handling instructions, and is taken through how to report a concern, before they begin.
If a concern is raised
Anyone working with us who has a concern tells the Designated Safeguarding Lead the same day; if a child is in immediate danger, they call 999 first. The Lead reviews the concern within one working day, consults the local safeguarding arrangements for the area where the child lives, and refers to children’s social care or the police where needed. Decisions and reasons are recorded, including when no referral is made. Any allegation about someone who works with us is reported to the Lead, or directly to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) if it concerns the Lead. We share information lawfully and proportionately to protect a child.
Records, online safety and training
Safeguarding records are factual, dated and kept securely, separate from programme records, and opened only by the Lead. Children’s information is never stored on personal devices. We only use footage that has been consented to, checked for surnames, school logos and uniforms, house numbers and locations before publishing, and we remove anything on request within 72 hours. Everyone with family or setting contact reads this policy every year, and our Lead completes designated safeguarding training at least every two years.
The guidance we follow
Working Together to Safeguard Children 2026 (Department for Education), Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 used as best practice, and UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle personal data.
Review
We review this policy at least every year, and after any incident or change in law or guidance. Next review: October 2027. Questions: hush@hushaway.com.
